Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any side effects from taking Finasteride?

Finasteride is extremely unlikely to cause side effects. Rare cases have been reported in which a small loss of libido was experienced. Recent studies though have shown no conclusive evidence that the low micro doses of finasteride used for DHT blocking (usually under 2mg per day), cause any loss of libido. In such an instance you can consult with our GP and discontinue Finasteride treatment if you wish. Libido often returns quickly while in a few cases it takes longer.

Are there any side effects from taking Dutasteride?

Very rarely Dutasteride can result in a slight loss of libido. The likelihood of this happening is extremely low. In such instances you should consult with our GP and can discontinue Dutasteride treatment if you wish. Libido often returns quickly while in a few cases it takes longer. An allergic reaction to Dutasteride has also been found to occur in the form of a rash and swelling. Discontinuing the treatment resolves this issue.

Am I eligible to take Finasteride or Dutasteride?

Finasteride and Dutasteride only work for men due to their effect on dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone created in men when testosterone changes form. Some men benefit more than others from use. There are no differences across ethnic groups. Neither Finasteride nor Dutasteride are suitable for women or children. Pregnant women must not take Finasteride or Dutasteride under any circumstances.

Do Finasteride or Dutasteride affect a man’s fertility?

Neither Finasteride nor Dutasteride affects a man’s ability to have a child. Extensive research studies have proven Finasteride and Dutasteride do not affect sperm count, quality or mobility. They have no effect on semen production in men.

Prescription Hair Loss Medication

Finasteride

Finasteride is a prescription-only medication for men suffering from mild to moderate hair loss. It blocks the negative effect of the male hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

As men age, the body’s natural production of DHT hormones causes follicles in the scalp to shed their hair and die. Finasteride nullifies 70 percent of the effect of DHT on follicles, so they remain alive and continue to produce hair. Approximately four months after beginning a course of Finasteride balding men find their hair’s normal growth cycle has returned. Hair regrows in areas that were suffering hair loss.

Prescribed in micro doses by MHR Clinic’s GP, Dr. Kamran Abbas, Finasteride has few if no side effects. It works even more efficiently when combined with Minoxidil lotions, low level laser therapy and herbal supplements.

Dutasteride

Dutasteride is a prescription-only medication for men suffering from moderate to severe hair loss. It has a similar effect, and is offered as an alternative, to Finasteride.

Dutasteride is more potent and effective in blocking DHT hormones than Finasteride. It remains active after consumption for a longer period. As a result Dutasteride nullifies 90 percent of the effect of DHT on follicles, allowing them to restore almost all of their hair production. Patients recover a normal hair growth cycle approximately four months after beginning a course of Dutasteride.

Also prescribed in micro doses by MHR Clinic’s GP, Dr. Kamran Abbas, Dutasteride has few if no side effects. It works even more efficiently when combined with Minoxidil lotions, low level laser therapy and herbal supplements.

Herbal Hair Loss Medication

Herbal and mineral supplements enhance the success of other hair loss treatments by maintaining your body’s optimum condition for healthy hair growth. MHR Clinic advises the use of these herbal supplements alongside its other hair restoration services.

Saw Palmetto Extract

Studies have proven that Saw Palmetto is successful in improving hair growth in 60 percent of men with male pattern baldness. Extracted from the berries of the Saw Palmetto tree, this organic herbal remedy blocks 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone to DHT and brings about hair loss.

Milk Thistle Extract

Milk Thistle and its extracts, particularly silymarin, detoxify the body, purify blood and promote healthy cell growth. Extracted from the seed of the milk thistle plant, this organic herbal supplement helps to eliminate the excess hormones that contribute to hair loss in men and women.

Zinc Citrate

Hair loss is caused by zinc deficiency as the mineral plays an important role in hair tissue growth and repair. It also helps to keep oil glands around the follicles working properly. Zinc Citrate supplements counter hair loss by boosting cell and protein production, as well as vitamin and mineral absorption.
